Things to do in Everglades city

Things to do in Everglades City would include airboat tours such as everglades private airboat tours or Everglades city airboat tours which would become one of the main stays in Everglades City. Swamp buggies have also become a very popular activity to do in the swamps of the Everglades. Charter guides fishing the 10,000 islands catching red fish, snook, trout, and tarpon is another great way to spend a day with the family in Everglades city.

Everglades Museums

Everglades City Museum located in the heart of Everglades City is a great way to spend the hour out of the sun to learn about the ancestors that helped build Everglades City. Within view is the Everglades City Hall with many pictures and memorabilia from the ancestry of our county.

Everglades National Parks

Everglades National Park located south of town on the bay has a ranger station to learn about the Eco-system and National Parks. Also, on-site at the Ranger Station is the Everglades National Park Boat Tours doing tours through the 10,000 islands on larger boats. The Big Cypress National Preserve visitors center is located just out of town on Hwy US 41 only 4 miles from Everglades City towards Miami.

Restaurants

Located around Everglades City are many restaurants specializing in seafood. City Seafood located on the north of town, overlooks the Barron River so you can watch the airboats go by, manatees and birds. Originally built as a fish house by Barrel Head House in the early 1950′s then sold to Walter Brown in later years still used as a fish house has now become a restaurant called City Seafood. The Rod & Gun Club also overlooking Barron River has had guests such as presidents, chartering fishing guides and hunting ducks and the famous movie stars from movies like Gone Fishin’. The Seafood Depot located on the east side of time was the original train depot/station for the Southeastern Railway turned seafood restaurant. For a local family restaurant built in later years is the Island Cafe located on the right just off the main road coming into Everglades City.

Travelling Through the Everglades

Mr Collier purchased land from Lee County and Monroe County to create Collier County from swampland. Created from the swamp’s that no one wanted to travel- Everglades City , Naples, and Immokalee became some of the most coveted land in the US.

Catching stone crabs, blue crabs, fishing for mullet, king fish, pompano and many other species to sell then became the local trade. Then came the tourist and Airboat tours, Boat tours, Swamp buggy rides,along with the Everglades national park, and Big cypress preserve. Charter fishing later became one of the great economics for the area as the National parks came. Fishing for reds, snook, sheepshead, tarpon, trout,and other great game fish.When leaving Everglades City Travel to the north to Immokalee.

Immokalee Fl Has for many years become a agricultural hub for south Florida. Growing tomatos, peppers, watermelons, beans, corn, and much more. Also has a very large cattle and citrus community.

Naples Fl

Naples Florida has now become the County seat of Collier County. Has world class beaches fabulous restaurants hotels and shopping.
